Extract Mental Tips From The Greats
Every top pro player possesses their own unique mental qualities which set them apart from the rest, and make them play top-echelon tennis day in, day out - and you can bring some of these qualities into your own game as well.
Today I will discuss just a few of these powerful mental qualities of some of the past and present top players, and then show you how you can bring them into your own game.
For instance - Roger Federer possessed the ability to work out the best game-plan to use against his opponents - while he was actually playing the match - and this means that he is never beaten until the last point is over, as he is able to change his game into anything he needs it to be, to win.
Andy Roddick and Serena Williams had a strategy of absolute all-out attack, even when other players would be defending, can be a very positive tactic and mental strategy to surprise your opponent when your back is to the wall at 1-4 in the 3rd set.
Lleyton Hewitt's and Rafael Nadal had a Jimmy-Connors-like "never-say-die" attitude which won them many matches they should have probably lost, and this is an admirable quality to bring into your game, using the mental strategy of relentlessness to wear down even the toughest opponents.
Justine Henin-Hardenne displayed a similar gritty mental ability, as well as showing some aspects of Federer's and Roddick's unique mental abilities. Lindsay Davenport had a cool demeanor and stable mental attitude meant that she was a tough contender day in, day out, and she didnt have too many bad days.
Most of these players also have the unique ability - when emotionally upset - to channel their emotion into their game, rather than into racket-breaking self-destructive tendencies - and this means that they often strike back with great venom when they are down and out. This is a true champion quality.
Any of these qualities are success traits which have helped these players reach the very heights of the game - and so imagine what you could do if you could incorporate several of these characteristics into your own game over the next year or two. This can be done.
You can do this by choosing, and focusing upon, just one of these qualities - but you must do it for six months, ensuring that you bring this quality into your game, and onto the court, each and every time you walk out to play.
You continue to do this until eventually it simply becomes absolutely automatic and instinctive for you to be this way on-court, so you do not even have to think about it any more - and this is what repetition does - it makes things automatic to us.
So.....take your pick! What qualities do you want to bring into your game? Yes, it's true - you can honestly bring any quality you desire into your game, as long as you are willing to take the time to develop it into becoming instinctive and automatic.
Starting with any top player you greatly admire is probably a very good start - so begin today - building your mental toughness into a match-winning feature of your game - just like the pros.
